FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL

We ended the year 2010 exhausted, but exhilarated with the amount of opportunities for athletes that were undertaken in the Paralympic movement in all sports and where, once again IWAS played a key role.

HIGHLIGHTS

IWAS 2011 World Games Host Announced

The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sport Federation (IWAS) announced today that the bid to host the IWAS World Games 2011 has been awarded to Sharjah, UAE. The Games will take place from 1 to 10 December 2011, at the Althiqah Club for Handicapped and other venues in the city of Sharjah.

Final Days before Closing Date for Junior Games

The closing date for entries to the IWAS World Junior Games 2011, Dubai is now only 6 days away. The Games will have its opening ceremony on 17 April and conclude on 20 April. A last minute surge in entries are expected by the Local Organising Committee.

SPORT

Electric Wheelchair Hockey Qualifying Tournament 2011

Spain and Slovenia to battle it out for a place in the IWAS Committee Electric Wheelchair Hockey (ICEWH) European Championships in 2012. The qualifying tournament will be held in Barberà del Vallés, Spain from 5 to 8 May 2011.

IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup Update

IWAS Wheelchair Fencing has entry/registration forms for Malaga World Cup, Montreal World cup and Eger World Cup. Please remember all entries must be submitted via the IWAS member organisation in your country

IWAS Athletics Series

The 2011 IWAS Athletics Series begins in the Netherlands with the Open Dutch Championships in Emmen, 28th-29th May, followed by the International Meeting Bottrop in Germany 1st May and finishing back in the Netherlands with the Nelli Cooman games in Stadskannal 5th June.

News from Greece

In the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch the Greek athletes of Shotput performed their best, winning five medals out of the nine medals of the Greek Delegation.
